Sleeping With A Concussion?
I was snowboarding today and i went off a rail and fell. I fell on my back but my head whipped back and hit the ground to. I do not think I blacked out... If I did it was only for like a second. I felt really light headed, and out of it for about 10 mins after it happened. I was wearing a helmet. I still felt kind of out of it but continued snowboarding for another hour and a half with no problems, except feeling light headed and a bit sick to my stomach, but not that bad. I didn't throw up. Since then it as been like 9 hours, i have had a mild headache at the top of my head since it happened. I still feel out of it, but I am aware of what is going on and can remember everything that happened, even though some parts are kind of fuzzy I still remember it good. I have been tired since it happened but i was snowboarding for four hours and had a hard hockey game the previous day and was tired before it happened. Should I sleep?
well... since I am seeing this question so late... you have either gone and gotten yourself checked out, you feel better or you are dead. Assuming you aren't dead...
If you are still experiencing any of the above symptoms today you need to be seen by a doctor. You don't have to have amnesia to get a concussion. The most important thing is to keep the swelling down on your brain. You can feel fine for several days and then have problems pop up. That is what happened to me. I went to the ER the day of my accident was cleared and thought all was ok. Two days later I was back at the Er for another test as I had symptoms out the wazoo. I mean I had to relearn how to get dressed!
So if you have been cleared by a dr in the past based on your age/weight/height to take at least 600 mg of Ibuprofen (at 400 mg it does not work against swelling, I would be taking 800 mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours around the clock for several days. If you haven't been cleared to take that much you might be able to get an ok from the nurses line if your dr's office has one etc. All my problems were from the swelling that was happening in my brain that I was unaware of the first couple of days. The CT scan and the MRI can see real serious stuff and bleeding on the brain etc. but they didn't see the swelling on my brain and it has totally changed my life.
Err on the side of your future health - if you have any questions - get checked out.
