How much do you feed your adult cat?
I used to leave dry food out all day. I noticed he seemed to be gaining weight, so I decided to read the bag. It says for an adult kitty 1-11/2 cups. I'm giving 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night and my cat acts like he's starving. Should I give more? At first I thought he was just spoiled, but I changed over a month ago.
Totally depends on the food - the better the quality, the less you need to feed. THE WHOLE FIRST SITE IS about food, gotta check it out if you want to be well informed. Littlebigcat also has great articles about food.
Also, all the latest research says WET FOOD IS MUCH BETTER THAN DRY (sorry old timers - it's true - read up on the links below before you go ballistic!)
Furthermore, cats are "occasional eaters" and sometimes eat a little at a time, sometimes more, so it's better to put it all out. Did the bag just say 1-1 1/2 cups or did it give a weight range? Usually it will say something like 1/2 cup for every five pounds or something like that. In any event, at the very LEAST, you should be giving some canned and some dry.
